Treading the same path as ugg boots, Blundstones and RM Williams boots, the humble Dunlop Volley is on its way to becoming the “it” shoe in the Big Apple. Billig ugg cardy Stiefe

 

After spotting construction workers on the Sydney Harbour Bridge wearing them while on a trip to Australia last year, Manhattan boutique owner Steven Alan began importing the iconic Aussie sneakers and selling them to New Yorkers for US$60 ($66) a pair, the Daily Telegraph reported.

 

The shoes retail for about $30 in Australia.

 

Alan said he was attracted to the simplicity and comfort of the canvas sandshoe.

 

“It’s really hard to get a sandshoe that is classic and that you’ve ever seen before but which still reads ‘classic’,” Alan told the Daily Telegraph. Schuhe Ugg Sale

 

“Immediately people are drawn to it because it’s a new classic.” There are eight Steven Alan boutiques in New York and LA stocking the iconic green and yellow striped version as well as the standard black and white.

 

Since March, 100 pairs have been sold. The film industry is reportedly embracing the shoe with staff on New York film sets exchanging their running shoes for the comfort of Volleys.

 

And last week Aussie actress Nicole Kidman and her husband Keith Urban were spotted in Alan’s Tribeca store in New York. ugg boots

 

The Dunlop volley was first designed specifically as a tennis shoe and first sold in 1939 for $2.50. They were standard issue by the Australian Army and RAAF until the late 1980s.
